Great Lakes Academy began operations in the fall of 1997 as a K-3 school. The school added a grade level each year for the first five years, leading to the current configuration of providing a public education for students in grades K-8. Great Lakes Academy’s programming is built around the shared vision of educating children in a safe and nurturing environment. Great Lakes Academy is committed to giving every student the opportunity to be responsible for their academic success and to put them on the path to lifelong learning.
We are the only public school in the Pontiac area that fosters community relationships and provides small class sizes to support families from Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Mrs. Alexandrea Calme
Principal
Lead Teacher – Professional Learning Community (PLC)
I am honored to serve as the Principal of Great Lakes Academy, a school that has been my professional home for the past eight years. My journey here began in the classroom, where I had the privilege of teaching for six years, gaining firsthand experience in the heart of our school’s mission.
My own academic background is rooted in Michigan’s strong educational community. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Wayne State University, followed by a Master of Arts in School Administration from Eastern Michigan University. These experiences have shaped my deep understanding of both instructional best practices and effective school leadership.
Every day, I am inspired by the dedication of our students, staff, and families. My goal is to continue fostering a supportive and rigorous learning environment where every student feels empowered to achieve their full potential.
